Bio

Cat Outwin makes cinematic indie pop/rock for deep feelers — where vulnerability meets distortion and every song feels like an emotional landscape.

Welcome to the cinematic world of Cat Outwin, an indie pop/rock artist crafting emotionally charged songs that live somewhere between intimacy and apocalypse. Her music weaves ethereal synth atmospheres with raw guitar-driven energy, creating soundscapes that feel both deeply personal and expansively cinematic.

Based in Auckland, Cat brings a rare depth to her songwriting — informed by her background as a therapist and her lifelong devotion to music. Her songs explore inner landscapes: grief, longing, resilience, the human heart in a fragile world. The result is music that doesn’t just entertain, but connects.

Drawing on a palette of vintage and modern textures — from her beloved Korg 01/W synthesizer and 808 bass to soaring vocals and grungy distorted riffs — Cat blends shimmering indie pop with moody alternative rock. Her sound moves effortlessly from delicate and dreamlike to powerful and anthemic.

Fans of artists like London Grammar, Nick Cave, Phoebe Bridgers, The Cranberries, Daughter, and early Radiohead will feel at home in Cat Outwin’s universe — where emotional honesty meets atmospheric production, and every song feels like a small film for the soul.

“I’m Not the Woman You Want” is a song that dives into the vulnerable, modern world of dating — where people swipe for upgrades instead of seeing what’s real right in front of them. It captures that familiar sting of being left for someone “different,” but instead of wallowing in insecurity, the song channels a sharp, knowing frustration.

She Can Understand” released September, 2025

“She Can Understand” is my heartfelt original song about connection, empathy, and finding that one person who truly gets you when no one else can. It’s emotional, honest, and deeply personal – a song for anyone who has ever felt misunderstood and then found comfort in another soul.

A slice in time…1994 !

Step into the time capsule of musical nostalgia with Catherine Castle’s debut album, recorded at Gazelle Studios in 1994. This pivotal moment marked Catherine’s transition from home recordings on her trusty 4-track to the professional studio environment, opening up a world of possibilities in sound exploration.

With her band by her side, Catherine Castle embarked on an exhilarating journey into the heart of the recording process. The studio walls reverberated with the excitement of a budding musician finally stepping into the realm of professional production. Multiple tracks and harmonies danced through the air, as Catherine’s vision came to life with each meticulously crafted note.

At the helm of the mixing console was Aron Ross, a young graduate from SAE, whose enthusiasm mirrored Catherine’s own. Together, they embarked on a sonic adventure, fine-tuning each element of the album to perfection. Aron’s passion for his craft infused every track with a youthful energy, elevating the recording process to new heights.

But Catherine’s musical odyssey didn’t end there. Venturing into the hallowed halls of York Street Studios, she recorded a single that captured the essence of a bygone era. Nestled amidst the nostalgia of a studio once home to the annual Telethon, Catherine Castle’s music echoed with the memories of a generation of Kiwis.
